Hello, Greg, Mike, All.
I am just logging on to make sure that I can get in. I will be back with my message to the campers. I hope you get a chance to view this and the updates as the camp progresses. We are nearly eight days at sea and passing through the EEZ of Brazil near to the Saint Peter and Saint Paul archipelago just north of the equator. An EEZ is the "exclusive economic zone" and represents a seazone surrounding a coast, peninsula, island or other body of land that a sovereign states exerts its exclusive right to exploration and use of marine resources. The EEZ cannot extend more than 200 nautical miles from the body of land but may be restricted to a smaller radius. As international rules dictate, we have to stand down on some of our measurements of atmospheric and oceanographic properties. This is a little troublesome since we are literally in the middle of no where but rules are rules! We would not want the Brazilian coast guard chasing us down, shooting one of our radiosondes out of the sky, or receiving a reprimand from NOAA when we return to the States. Thus, we have a little more time today to reflect, catch up on data analysis, and blog!
Cheers!
